Please Be-Weave Me: How Men Really Feel About Weave
"Hey! Hey!! That's not a tumbleweed, that's a tumble-weave," said some poor soul that watched a mass of weave fly passed his feet. Tumble-weaves are usually balled up pieces of weave or tracks that you see blowing rambunctiously down the streets near hair salons, clubs, and other geographical locations where hoodrats(all ethnicities apply) dwell. This usually happens because someone didn't recycle their weave or got in a fight which resulted in a pulled track. Nonetheless, we are here today to discuss How Men Really Feel About Weave...
Make Sure It's a Good Weave/Hairstyle
Once I heard a friend say "I get tired of men complaining about weave, it's not like they're buying it." In some cases this is true. But she didn't understand that men don't care or know as much, if it's a good weave. When you have a good weave, the average man can't tell it's a weave. The only time men complain about your weave is when it's a bad weave, and we can identify that it is poorly done, cheap and bad grade of hair. If you must have a weave stop buying synthetic and invest in some human hair. Get some indian or remy and leave that lacefront at the beauty supply.
It Costs Too Much
The refrigerator can be empty, car could be on E, bill collectors calling and texting, but that hair will be done. Men don't like weave because it cost too much and some women don't know how to prioritize. They'll put their hair before their rent. Getting some weave and a sew-in could run you about $400($300 for the hair and $100 to put it in) or more. True, going natural isn't easier, but it's definitely cheaper. Men dislike weave because like Chris' father on "Everybody Hate Chris" we see the dollar signs resting on your head.
Hair Shouldn't Compromise Sex
If weave couldn't be hated more, it's during sex. I don't have these problems I've came on weaves, afros, blow-outs, doll hair, braids, dreads and even wraps. But other men hate when women care more about their hair, than the d!ck. If you value your hair more than an orgasm you make a man want to kill you(for lack of better words). That's what he wants to do, when you interrupt sex to protect your hair; it's a turn-the-f^ck off.
Weaves Shed
Unless you just like to leave a little piece of yourself behind for him. Men don't want to see your stray hairs on their bathroom floor, in their bed, clogging the shower drain, stuck to his genitals(maybe that's a good problem), or caught in his beard. Weave sheds more than natural hair and that's a negative to having weave. Though they say you can stop obsessive shedding by sealing the track before you sew the tracks in- but hey I'm no beautician, I'm a booty-cian.
You Don't Need It
We think you look great without it. We love you just the way you are. If you decided to try something new with your natural hair, you'd still find you a good man. Because men appreciate you, India Arie said she was "more than her hair" a long time ago. Granted, there are other men who could careless and dig long hair on a woman because that's their preference. But Please Be-Weave Me when I say that there are more men that love a woman that rocks her own and owns that sh!t. Until next time...

one reason why i dig white girls
I don't have a weave mainly because of the cost to obtain and upkeep, and I'm in the process of going natural, which is really a lot of work. But my man knows and accepts that if he wants a super fly chick on his arm when we go out, then he has to put up with all the work that goes into that. I make sure that this doesn't interfere with any sexy-time and I always make sure that he's rewarded for his patience.
LOL.. Do you know the amount of white girls that wear weave?? Plenty, believe me.
Do you have a weave?
No, just extension braids in the past.
Do you care about how men feel about your weave?
Never had one...
Does weave hinder your sex life?
N/a.
How much do you usually pay to get your hair done?
I do my own hair. I don't use a lot of products. Shampoo, conditioner, olive oil, coconut oil... And water lol. If I were to get it pressed, it'd be like $90.
Have you ever thought about going natural?
I am natural! (: It is more work in my opinion, than weaves. But I like it, it's healthier, stronger, and much longer. Also, men don't necessarily treat me differently, but the comments I receive (about my hair) are more genuine, like, of a higher quality (if that make sense).
Love your blog btw!
I wear my hair naturally, but Lawd knows my heart weeps for a woman who is rocking a poorly done 'do; if you're spending first & last month's rent on a hairstyle, then dammit it should look like it. I'd be pissed too if I went to someone's house w/a empty arse fridge but they got some roadkill on top of their head and claiming it as a "hairstyle," especially if they paid stupid money to get it done.
@Anon 12:12 D@mn I wonder what type of reward you give him. Lol
I see it's a lot of natural and anonymous women on the blog today. It's hard to respond to anon separately but I really appreciate the feedback. N I am glad that you enjoy theSUNK.com
why does it even matter if females wear weave. too busy judging her off her looks love her for her mind. thats the natural her. a weave is just a weave
not a booty-cian tho lol
@Anon 4/10 6:30 It matters because of attraction, it's what men or women, are and are not attracted to. No one can love you for your mind, if they couldnt initially like you off of your looks.
Im definitely a Booty-cian. I give wonderful massages, have it sitting right. lol
I'm new here and I must say I love this site. Another option black women might want to try is growing their own hair out! This way there won't be any need for a weave and most of this hair drama is resolved.
@Chanelle Hey Chanelle welcome to theSUNK. However, I didn't say weave was bad, I just wanted to write a bout how men felt about it. Nothing is wrong with weave.
I think this is a sensitive issue for black women.
As little girls, we are told that our hair is our crowning glory. We are told that men love long, luxurious hair. Then we look at our hair and unless we have obvious mixed-blood hair in our system, we see short and nappy and kinky.
We are told on t.v., in videos, and in magazines that hair matters; just look at Beyonce. Then we see our men with white or Latino women with long flowing locks. And we are convinced that the only way to attract a man is with a particular look that includes a particular style and length of hair.
Recently I tested this theory. I wore my hair natural-short and nappy and kinky. During that time, black men treated me as if I were militant or lesbian. But when I put that weave in, suddenly I became softer and more feminine. I was still me, but the look changed and apparently was more appealing.
Black women want to feel beautiful. We have been told for years that we aren't as pretty as white women; that our attitudes aren't as appealing, and our strength isn't desirable.
The world tells us we aren't very pretty because we aren't blonde haired and blue eyed. Our barbie dolls are white women, our magazines are white women, our models strive to look to like white women. And our men are attracted to white women. What the hell are we supposed to do but strive to look like the thing the world defines as beautiful; whether we define it that way or not.
Yet all we want is the love and acceptance of a strong black man who defines our beauty individually and not by Western cultural standards.
Bottom line- Love the woman beneath the weave and the weave will never matter to the woman.
I don'wear a weave never had one on. They look hot and itchy.
My hair is natural (as is my booty LOL). Natural hair is a bit more work but its worth it for me and it does not interfere with sexy time.
I wear wigs sometimes and my natural hair at other times. When my hair hair is intact, regardless men look. Otherwise I'm invisible. My natural look is a lot more money and work but I'm comfortable with it, and my hair surely has nothing to do with what I'm working with.
I completely agree with All The Single Ladies. Wearing weave is a much deeper issue for black women than just the simple act of wearing weave. As for Unknown, that was an ignorant comment. White women have worn weaves longer than black women and definitely continue to wear weaves. Don't be fooled.
To the questions:
Do you have a weave?
Yes. I decided to start wearing them when I went natural.
Do you care about how men feel about your weave?
I can't say that I do. I wear my weave mostly because it is more convenient and takes less time than styling my natural hair. I'm a student and a single mom, so saving time on doing my hair means a little extra time to sleep in the am. If a man I was dating had a problem with my hair, he would have to get over it or get lost.
Does weave hinder your sex life?
Not at all. I've never been the type that didn't want a man touching my hair or sweating it out, but I could understand when a woman doesn't want her fresh do messed up. Getting your hair done can be very costly and if a man wants to mess up a new hairstyle, he should at least be willing to pay to get it redone or help you with the cost.
How much do you usually pay to get your hair done?
I do my own hair, which saves be about $150. The hair I invest in has cost me between $170 and about $300. It might sound like a lot, but I wash, condition, and reuse my hair. It actually costs women more to keep purchasing $50 hair from the beauty supply store that may last them a month, than paying $200 for hair they can use for 6 months to a year.
Have you ever thought about going natural?
I am, and I love being natural! It just takes a lot of work, unless you're fortunate enough to have been natural your whole life and have well trained hair (like a best friend of mine).
Just got turned on to your blog...LOVE IT! I would love to hang with you, freak. Been laughing for the last 45 minutes.
